Jumeirah Group (Winner)
When opening a new hotel, Jumeriah needs to fill a range of management positions. They had no effective way to find and develop internal employees to do this in the past. Now, with our unified TD solution, they can find the employees with the right skills or potential, develop any areas of weakness, and then move them into new hotels when they are completed. This allows them to maintain their brand and quality while increasing their employee satisfaction and allows them to rapidly expand into new markets. |

Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian (Winner)
Individuals with dementia provided challenges for family members and healthcare workers to care for. When an individual is taken out of their normal environment and placed in a foreign environment such as a hospital, it can be a stressful and frightening experience. Individuals with dementia who are hospitalized usually have increased stress causing agitation, etc. which provides unique challenges for the healthcare provided. The first approach for the healthcare provider is to restrain the patient’s hands to prevent them from pulling out critical tubes or get out of bed causing them to fall. This usually leads to increase agitation and decline in their memory.
In 2008 Hoag Hospital launched an enterprise wide effort to educate all patient care givers on caring for patients with dementia. This computer based training included: pre-assessment of their current knowledge, online education, and post-assessment knowledge.
Using the Pathlore answer analysis database, a comparison of the clinical care givers pre and post assessment knowledge was completed and analyzed. This was important as individuals can pass the test but major gaps in the learner’s knowledge and understanding can be determined.
Results: Among all care givers, the key question on “problem solving approaches” to use for the person with dementia was the key question answered incorrectly both on the pre and post assessment. It was the only question that has a passing rate (79%) less than 90% for registered nurses who are responsible for assessing and implementing key interventions for patients.
Using this data, we launched an additional online course on the use of tools and interventions to use for patient with dementia which was implemented one unit at a time. This analysis resulting in additional education in a key area, the use of patient restraints in all patients has declined by 50% on units where this additional education was implemented. |

Children’s Hospital & Health Systems (Runner up)
CHHS implemented SumTotal 7.5 in July 2008. CHHS successfully migrated over 15 years of training transcript data involving 300,000+ rows of data with a 100% success rate. CHHS was innovative in leveraging the SumTotal OAA to provide life support certification tracking, annual safety and corporate compliance education. CHHS internally designed and implemented a variety of custom reports using MS Reporting Services that could not have been achieved with Report Manager due to processing limitations. CHHS has also leveraged a variety of custom notifications for online as well as classroom learning activities. CHHS incorporates custom HTML to capitalize the potential of each learning activity\'s course description including links to support documents and web sites. CHHS worked with SumTotal to customize our daily DSU to automatically activate/deactivate learners upon hire/terminate date. CHHS created over 60 custom job aids to assist learners as well as internal administrative staff with all features of the system. CHHS converted over 200 tests to ToolBook tests prior to go live and continue to use for new tests. CHHS documented best practices for using SumTotal as well as designing the courses to deploy within SumTotal. CHHS develops more than 90% of its online content in-house. CHHS records more than 50,000 course completions annually. CHHS has implemented a 2-level course catalog to assist learners with locating learning activities. |

ResMed (Runner up)
ResMed was the catalyst for SumTotal developing and implementing a greatly improved Change Level Management process for SumTotal software development, to ensure that software hotfixes and changes are properly reconciled and tested before going through the lab and test and out to customer. ResMed worked with Patricia Lughezzani develop a significantly improveed change control process with a single merge and release point, which benefits the customer (through a more robust solution, better quality fixes, and reduced uncertainty of change) impactrobust solution) and SumTotal (through a streamlined change control process). This is an innovation with the software development process and implementation, rather than the use of the software itself. It was a partnership between Resmed and SumTotal customer support and we are very happy with the progress that has been achieved |

Wendy’s (Winner)
In August 2007, Wendy’s established a comprehensive E-Learning Strategy that would enable us to deploy E-Learning to all of our Company and Franchise restaurants. This includes a target audience of approximately 45,000, including crew, store managers, and multi-unit managers on the Company side (potentially an additional 150-200k user base on the Franchise side).
Through a carefully planned and well executed strategy of implementation of the SumTotal RoD LMS after a multi-phased pilot, we were able to deploy to over 1,400 corporate stores and generate significant early improvement metrics in Productivity, Quality, and Retention:
- Improved speed to proficiency for crew positional training
- Improved baseline knowledge of manager systems
- More efficient and effective execution of new product implementation
- Decreased time to administer training for managers
- Validated that all crew and mgrs can use (recognizing learning curves vary)
