1. Learning Activity Architecture: Beyond the Basics I
Instructor: Stephen Kilpatrick, Senior Product Specialist, SumTotal Systems.
This one-day, hands-on workshop provides an in-depth review of SumTotal Learning Activities, including what it provides, best practices, tips on special use cases, and the use of blended learning structures in the SumTotal TotalLMS. In addition, Beyond the Basics I will explore how to use learning activities for maximum flexibility while avoiding potential pitfalls and maintaining an organized and intuitive experience for your learners. Key topics covered in this session: Approvals, Audiences, Certifications, Fulfillment and Subscription Links.

- Use Fulfillment/Subscription Links
- Build blended Learning Activity Structures
- Use approvals for managers and learning activities
- ‘Expire’ learning activities that require re-training

2. Marketing Your LMS Effectively: Tools & Techniques for Enhanced Enterprise Communication
Instructor: Dawn Cassidy, Sr. Director of Global Talent Management, SumTotal Systems.
This one-day, hands-on workshop provides an introduction to marketing planning during all phases of an LMS implementation—and for ongoing success. Using LMS features and functionality can be a great way to keep learning visible to both current and potential users. We will share successes as well as lessons learned, and will create a marketing plan all attendees will take away from the workshop. The class will include formal and informal discussions, break-outs, and a group project.
You will learn how to:
- Identify your strategic marketing requirements during different stages of an LMS implementation
- Develop exciting ways to encourage and keep your learners and administrators using the LMS
- Create a marketing plan that can be used inside your business to:
- Leverage existing tools available on the SumTotal Customer Productivity Center (CPC)

3. ToolBook & TotalLCMS: Integrating with the LMS

This one-day, hands-on workshop will thoroughly review the powerful content development capabilities of ToolBook and SumTotal TotalLCMS. Through a series of exercises, you’ll explore the packaging, uploading, and launching of courses developed in ToolBook Instructor and TotalLCMS.
You will learn how to:
- Compare the differences in packaging as SCORM 1.2 and 2004 for ToolBook and TotalLCMS courses
- Modify a ToolBook course to display the user’s name that is stored in the LMS
- Investigate how to add a ToolBook course to a TotalLCMS course
- Set properties for and launch an adaptive delivery TotalLCMS course

4. Maximum Performance: Succession Planning for Tomorrow

This one-day, hands-on workshop will take participants beyond the basics of goal-setting and performance appraisal to the career and succession planning features of the SumTotal Performance Management solution. Using these features, an organization can further assess its current talent and plan for the future, targeting retention efforts and ensuring the strategic readiness of its talent pool. Participants will gain first-hand experience configuring career plans, succession plans, and comparative talent reviews. They will also explore related notifications and reports.

This one-day, hands-on workshop provides a thorough review of the performance management features available in the TotalLMS, without using the SumTotal TotalPerformance product. We’ll explore how to use skills and competencies to track the knowledge your users already have—and what they need—in order to be fully trained.
You will learn how to:
- Incorporate skills and competencies into your training
- Add key elements and behaviors (BARS) to skills
- Track skills and competencies tied to learners, jobs, organizations, and activities
- Update proficiencies and perform skill gap analysis
- Use the Competency Assessment Manger tool to develop performance evaluations and surveys in general
- Configure performance evaluation reports
- Create individual and group development plans

7. Pathlore Deep Dive: The Path to TotalLMS Processes
Instructor: Margaret Headley, Lead Product Specialist, SumTotal Systems.
This one-day, hands-on workshop walks you through the most commonly used TotalLMS functions. We’ll explore features not available in Pathlore, such as domains and audiences, and we’ll discuss how to navigate specific functional differences between Pathlore LMS 6.x and SumTotal TotalLMS 8.x—including managing rosters, notifications, and registration. Additionally, we will review best practices for planning for an upgrade to TotalLMS.
You will learn how TotalLMS manages:
- Navigation—modes and task-based menus
- Organizational structure
- Domains—object ownership
- Person Data—individual profiles, organizations, and jobs
- Audiences—delivering learning activities to the right people
- Class/Course Data—Learning Activity properties and attributes
- Learning activities—create simple Learning Activity structures for online courses, ILT Courses and ILT Classes

8. Reporting for Productive Measurement: Report Manager & Beyond
Instructor: Sandy McQueen, Senior Product Specialist, SumTotal Systems.
This hands-on, one-day workshop explores SumTotal Report Manager* best practices, along with an advanced look at formatting reports and building charts. Participants will have the opportunity to bring report needs to class—and, as a group, we’ll build reports and define appropriate layouts that will work for real-world reporting requirements.
You will learn how to:
- Establish relationships between LMS and data sources: What triggers population of data in a data source?
- Report on complex Learning Activity structures by leveraging activity codes with server-side filtering
- Determine and apply best practices for building meaningful reports
- Lay out reports on paper before building in Report Manager
- Identify the right data sources to use
- Maximize the use of pivot tables
- Create calculated fields
- Use proper formatting and other options available under “Commands and Options”
Who should attend:
- Anyone interested in maximizing use of SumTotal Report Manager in version 7.x/8.0 and gaining an introductory look at the new SSRS Report Manager
